Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is Dry Cleaning? The term is a little misleading as it involves the use of water based chemicals. The carbonation effect of Chemdry’s The Natural chemical, releases dirt & grime easily from the carpets or upholstery. It is then “bonnet cleaned”, leaving you with fresh, clean carpets and upholstery. The main advantage of dry cleaning is that it dries quicker.
  2. What is Steam Cleaning? Again the term is misleading as it may look like steam, but in fact it is a spray of very hot water that looks like steam. We use a hot water extraction machine that pumps a solution of hot water and detergent into the carpet and extract it then again together with the soil. This is a deep clean and is more usefull than the dry cleaning method in cases where there is dirt deep down in the pile of the carpet or liquid spills like coffee, softdrink or grange imagevomit.
  3. How long does it take for the carpets and upholstery to dry? This would depend upon the humidity and the type of carpet that is involved. Industrial type carpet squares would dry much quicker that a shaggy rug or a long pile carpet on a thick underlay. Generally speaking, our carpets are dry within one to two hours.
  4. How soon can I walk on the carpets after they have been cleaned? You can walk on the carpets immediately after we have cleaned the carpets. The carpets will still be damp, so just assure that your shoes or feet are free of dirt, so that you do not resoil the surface of the carpets again. Also be careful of slipping when you walk from the carpet onto a hard surface.
  5. What can I do to get the carpets to dry quicker? This depends on the amount of vapour in the air – humidity. When the humidity is low, we suggest that you open the windows to allow for a breeze through the house, provided there is no rain around. Turning on your ceiling fans will also speed up the drying process. You may turn on your air conditioner as this will help during high or low humidity circumstances. The air conditioner acts like a dehumidifier, pulling moisture from the house.
  6. carpet stainHow often should I get my carpets and upholstery cleaned? If you vacuum regularly, we would recommend a clean once a year. You should probably get them done more often if you do not vacuum regularly. If you have pets or children in the house you should consider to get them professionally cleaned every six months. Regular cleaning will extend the life of your carpets and upholstery.
  7. What does protection do? Protection coats the fabric fibres, shielding them from spills.

Carpets and upholstery without protection tend to absorb spills more quickly and it is less likely to remove these stains. Protection extends the life of the carpet or fabric and it is less likely to resoil as quickly as unprotected carpets and upholstery.
